An encircling prayer (Irish-Gaelic: caim) kindles protection and blessings from the alchemy of need and hope. The below version, which I wrote in 2013 when faced with a life crossroads, co-creates with Brigid, known and loved as both goddess and saint by derivatives of the aforesaid name to the Celtic people along the western fringe of Europe.
I walk my life spiral; Lady Brigid, my guide. On knees at sacred hearth, I add peat to embers — A bestirring of light: O Beautiful Imbas! O Tempering Smithy! O Liminal Threshold! Encircle me and mine With eastern daybreak skies, With southern high-noon heat, With western cooling rains, With northern snowy squalls; Sea, Land, and Sky Spirits, Foremothers, Forefathers, And Old Ones beside me. In a place (not a place), In a time (not a time), This I gently breathe-weave, By oath, so shall it be!
You are more than welcome to use and adapt it as needed.
Thank you Alicia... this prayer is much needed and appreciated.
